"All of my friends have cell phones, why can I not have one?" This is what you want your child to say.

"All of my friends have cell phones, why can I not have one?" This is what you want your child to say,

Why?

If your child is saying this, then you are doing something right. In fact, you are not only right, but you are apart of the few select people.

  1. Steve Jobs who was the CEO of Apple
  2. Novak Djokovic who is the greatest tennis player of all-time

Steve Jobs was asked in a 2010 interview by Nick Bilton of The New York Times, "So, your kids must love the iPad?” Steve Jobs responded, “They haven’t used it. We limit how much technology our kids use at home.”https://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/11/fashion/steve-jobs-apple-was-a-low-tech-parent.html

Novak said, "They complain that everyone at their school has a phone except them. It is not easy, and this is reflected on other levels. If everyone is doing something, the herd works like this, you have to follow. Well, it doesn't have to be like that. This is where I think we differ from others, because we are stubborn in both a positive and a negative way. " Here are more thoughts from Novak on this topic: https://www.tennisworldusa.org/tennis/news/Novak_Djokovic/148242/novak-djokovic-tells-why-his-kids-are-only-in-their-school-without-phones-/

Our children will complain. This is what children do. It is important that we lead them rather than giving into their wants.  Hot take, yes, a phone is a want not a need.   Don't follow the heard,  lead your children in technology much like Steve Jobs and Novak Djokovic.
